Kind Words From YCO Families

There’s only so much I can tell you about what it’s like to be part of YCO, so I thought I’d hand this page over to the people who probably say it best - the parents.

Here are some of the lovely things families have shared with me over the years.

“She has created a wonderfully creative and supportive space for children!”

Emma Davis - Creative Calm Club

“My daughter joined Young Creatives Online's free Creative Calm Club for the first time this month and absolutely loved it. The session was warm, welcoming and engaging, with clear explanations that made the activity accessible and enjoyable.

The focus was drawing a dog and capturing movement, and my daughter created a beautifully dynamic drawing. Joella was knowledgeable, encouraging and genuinely receptive to the children. She gave such lovely, positive feedback, which really helped my daughter value her drawing.

We were impressed and have signed up for another course with Joella. She has created a wonderfully creative and supportive space for children!”

“Her ability in sketching has really improved.”

Clare Warner -  Young Artist Course

“Sophie has really enjoyed the art classes and her ability in sketching has really improved which really showed in yesterdays final elephant drawing. I know Sophie really enjoyed using her non dominant hand for drawing which pushed her out of her comfort zone but in a really positive way. She also really enjoys it when you go around the class talking to everyone as she learns from what you say to them just as much as what you say to her. Sophie’s confidence in herself and her drawing ability has really come along. This art class was just ideal for her, thank you so much.”

“It’s fun, relaxed and new skills are learnt every time!”

Amy Jacobs - Summer Holiday Painting Workshop

“Charlie really enjoyed the 3 day painting workshop during the summer holidays. It's fun, relaxed and new skills are learnt every time! I highly recommend the online holiday clubs with Joella for a great additional school holiday activity for any child that enjoys art!”

“The course was really helpful for getting together a portfolio.”

Louise Durrant - Young Artist Course

“My daughter has really enjoyed being part of the Young Artist's Course over the past year. She found the classes engaging and inspiring and enjoyed working with different themes and materials. The course was really helpful for getting together a portfolio, which led to an unconditional offer to study Art and Design at college. As well as being super experienced and skilled Joella has always been warm, approachable and encouraging.”

“She loves showing the work she's done to you and to her classmates.”

Michelle Jenkins - Mini Creatives

“My daughter enjoys being able to interpret and adapt a brief, using her skills and imagination to produce a truly unique piece of artwork. From a parent's perspective, I appreciate it when you adapt the medium to suit whatever the children have readily to hand, so we don't always feel the need to buy extra bits and bobs in order for the pupils to take part.

Your classes inspire her to want to create outside of the lessons, and I've certainly seen her using the techniques she's learned in class in at-home projects. She loves showing the work she's done to you and to her classmates, and is always keen to tell me whose she especially liked! It inspires her, I think, especially the artwork of children older than her/with a more developed sense of style.

Art enables her to express herself without judgement, without feeling like she's competing with anyone else. She just wants to improve for her own sake, and your gentle hand-holding classes are perfect for an aspiring artist to do just that!”

“It was at a good pace and wasn’t too fast.”

Andrea Jones - Holiday Painting Course

“The course was a very positive first time experience. It was at a good pace and wasn’t too fast which was one of my daughter’s worries.”

“I have seen Jasmine’s art transforming her school work.”

Saaniya Paver - Young Artist

“Jasmine looks forward her weekly art session and enjoys the interaction with Joella. She loves the various art techniques, different art forms and the general art conversations. I have seen Jasmines art transforming her school work - recently winning Spirited art competition at school in her year.”

“She’s always excited to share what she’s made.”

Esmat - Mini Creatives

“She has really enjoyed the class and looks forward to it every week. It’s boosted her confidence and creativity, and she’s always excited to share what she’s made. It’s been a really positive experience for her.”

“He has developed a new found confidence in his own abilities!”

Elizabeth Findlay - Home Creatives

“Best art teacher ever! My son absolutely loves his art lessons. Thanks to Joella, he has been enjoying creating fun works of art and has developed a new found confidence in his own abilities! I can not wait to see what they do in there next term.”

“A wonderfully patient and encouraging art teacher.”

Louise St Dennis - Summer Sketching Classes

“Rosa really enjoyed the sketching classes, she loved being creative with others and trying different techniques. It was a lovely way to spend an hour. Joella was great at engaging the students and inspiring them.”

“She just wanted to do lessons that were a bit more grown up.”

Emma Burke - Sketching Class

“It was a great way for Hannah to get an understanding of sketching in a relaxed, easily accessible lesson. She just wanted to do lessons that were a bit more grown up.”

“A painting she was really proud of.”

Emma Brearton

“Super engaging experience and learned some great techniques which enabled her to produce a painting she was really proud of.”

“There is no pressure and it is very relaxed.”

Sarah Paterson McGinty

“Joella guides the children through the art activities in a very peaceful and calm way, there is no pressure and it is very relaxed.”

“His confidence has increased a lot.”

Amy - Young Creatives Course

“Charlie really enjoys the lessons, his confidence has increased a lot since starting the weekly group and the art work has been fantastic too! Thanks Joella!”

“It’s amazing to find an online art teacher who makes them feel so comfortable.”

Louise St Dennis - Summer Courses

“My daughter has taken part in one of the sketching courses during the summer holidays and also the monthly calm clubs. She is looking forward to trying out the new studio sessions too. Joella is great at inspiring them to try new techniques and my daughter really enjoys every online session. It’s amazing to be able to find an online art teacher who makes them feel so comfortable and happy to share their work and to be able to interact...”

“She has a real talent for nurturing confidence.”

Maria R - 1:1 Sessions

“Young Creatives Online is a wonderful space for young artists. Joella is excellent with children - incredibly patient, encouraging, and skilled at bringing out the very best in each child’s creativity journey. She has a real talent for nurturing confidence while gently pushing young artists to explore and develop their ideas. Highly recommended for any child who loves art or wants to grow creatively in a supportive environment. She offers small online classes (and it works!) and also 121 sessions.”

“Week by week, her confidence grew.”

Lisa Edmunds - Mini Creatives

“I had been searching for in-person art classes in our area for a while, but with limited options available, I began looking online and came across Joella's class. From the very start, Joella was helpful and welcoming, and I felt confident booking my daughter in.

My daughter is 9 and can be quite shy, especially in new groups, so I was a little nervous about how she'd find the experience. But week by week, her confidence grew. She truly looked forward to each session and was so proud of what she was learning and creating.

What’s been especially lovely is seeing how she’s carried this confidence and enthusiasm beyond the class. She included a recent painting in a school presentation about her favourite activity -art and even submitted a self-portrait to our local agricultural show, where she won 1st place.

Joella’s kind, calm, and structured approach creates such a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow. She has a wonderful ability to support each child’s unique personality and pace. It’s been a beautiful experience, and we’re so grateful for it.”
