Hello!

Welcome to Young Creatives Online (YCO)! I'm Joella, an artist, educator, and a big supporter of our future creatives.

-----------------------------

YCO is an online creative platform dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and nurturing young artists aged 7-18. Whether it’s through group courses, one off workshops, 1:1 tuition, or my free monthly workshop, I aim to bring everyone together in a supportive, interactive space where we can learn, discuss, and explore art. I'm also a strong advocate for supporting young creatives as they navigate arts in education, helping them thrive both creatively and academically.

My courses aim to inspire young imaginations, filled with fun and creative projects, while building confidence and giving students the skills and self-belief they need to express their creative ideas and find their happy place. Online art classes are a fantastic way for young creatives to connect, share ideas, and collaborate with others from across the UK and beyond!

I’m always happy to help or answer any questions. I'm also here for the amazing adults supporting young creatives, ensuring everyone feels inspired and excited about art!

How It Works

Can teaching art online really work? Absolutely!

In my experience, online classes are both accessible and highly effective. Through live Zoom sessions, I bring high quality art lessons straight to you. Whether you’re in a bustling city, a quiet village, or away from home. I know not everyone has easy access to local art classes or studios, but we all deserve the chance to deepen our creativity and skills in something we love.

During each live Zoom class, we’ll dive into various art techniques, materials, and ideas together, with other like minded creatives who share the same passion.

What You’ll Need:

All you need is a device, a WiFi connection, and some basic art materials. I’ll provide a material list for each class, and I always try to keep it simple and affordable. If you don’t have something, it’s usually easy to find.

The online format gives you an up-close view of the creative process. With one camera focused on the artwork and another on me, you won’t miss a single detail. And if you can’t make a class, no worries, I can record everything so you can catch up later!

ABOUT

My Story

Hello, I’m Joella!

I’m a contemporary artist and educator with 12 years of experience teaching art to children, teens, and adults alongside my own art practice. I love inspiring, educating, and creating, and I've been fortunate enough to teach online to my wonderful students in the UK and beyond for the last 6 years through an independent children's art school. This all began during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I haven’t stopped since!

Discovering how adaptable and beneficial online art teaching can be led me to start my own venture —Young Creatives Online. Although this is an exciting new startup, it’s not new to me. My teaching portfolio is vast, ranging from children as young as 7 up to 18 years old and adults! I’ve taught at a university as a visiting artist, written, developed, and taught a primary school art curriculum, worked with many children on their scholarship portfolios, applications, and exam support, and even spent 4 years working in the gallery sector, bringing a wealth of experience to my teaching. I feel incredibly passionate about supporting and helping children flourish within the education system, as I know this can be a challenging time for many young creatives.

I am also passionate about creating for the love of creating! Art is a wonderful tool to help calm, express, and give confidence to young people, benefiting their daily lives now and in the future. If I can help young people carry this incredible skill into adulthood, then I know I've succeeded.

For me, this is just the beginning. I currently offer a selection of courses and tuition, but I aim to increase these as time goes on. Please don’t hesitate to chat with me if you can’t find what you’re looking for. It’s very likely I can make it possible, or I can point you in the right direction.

Painting Practice

I'm a painter at heart. After earning my BA Hons Fine Art Degree from Arts University Bournemouth, I immediately began exhibiting my paintings. I was lucky enough to receive the Platform Graduate Award, presented by Turner Contemporary, Aspex Gallery, MK Gallery, and Modern Art Oxford.

This award gave me fantastic opportunities to exhibit, network, and start my journey post graduation. That was 12 years ago, since then, I've participated in over 40 exhibitions, including three solo shows, and have been selected for various awards and residencies across the UK and Europe. Most recently, I was honoured with the DYCP grant from the Arts Council to further develop my current practice. If you'd like to know more, please visit my website at www.joellawheatley.co.uk.
